Plymouth Pride 2025 Cancelled Amid Funding and Volunteer Shortages
Plymouth Pride 2025, scheduled for Saturday, July 12 on Plymouth Hoe, has been cancelled due to insufficient funding and a decline in volunteer support.
Organisers announced the decision, citing the inability to deliver the event without adequate financial resources and volunteer participation. Last year’s event incurred costs exceeding £33,000, covering expenses such as security, medical services, production, and road closures. However, income fell short, with sponsorships raising £19,000, trader and food & beverage income contributing £2,444, and a crowdfunding attempt yielding £180, leading to a deficit of over £12,000.
The event is organised entirely by a small group of volunteer directors, whose numbers have diminished over time. Despite public appeals for assistance, few individuals have come forward, leaving the team without the necessary support to run a safe and successful event.
In a statement, organisers expressed gratitude to previous sponsors and supporters, including local councillors, businesses, and community organisations. They emphasised the need for increased financial backing and volunteer involvement to ensure the sustainability of future events.
While the main event will not take place this year, the team remains committed to keeping Pride alive through fundraising activities and community engagement, aiming for a return in 2026. They urge the local community to get involved by volunteering, donating, or offering sponsorship.
